It's time to ask For The Whole and Not for The Parts!

I was reading Luke 11 as the Holy Spirit led me, and something in verses 11-13 incited me. The revelation from those three verses are deep but yet they can be overlooked a million times. Let's take a look at them. Luke 11:11-13, "If a son shall ask bread of any of you, that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask for fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? - or if he shall ask egg will he offer him scorpion? - if you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?" Jesus didn't say how much more will the Father in Heaven give food or clothes or houses or children or husbands or wives or any other thing you have in mind, rather He said, How much more will the Father in Heaven give the Holy Spirit to those that ask Him. Did you notice that He started by mentioning bread, egg and fish which are likened to all the various needs of man that man always asks from God, for instance, one might be in need of finance, another in need of a job and so on. but then instead of listing them all out, He said the Holy Spirit. You know what that means?? everything that you will ever need is in the Holy Spirit. it simply means that Holy Spirit is our PERFECT GIFT. In other words, if you have the Holy Spirit, then you have every other thing. No wonder Jesus said in Mathew 6:31-33, "Therefore take no thought, saying What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? - (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) For Your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. - But seek you first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness: and all these things shall be added to you".

Again, the Holy Spirit is being referred to in Scriptures as the Power of God. In Acts 1:8a, "But you shall receive power after the Holy Spirit shall come upon you". Jesus was leaving His disciples to ascend to Heaven and the gift He promised to send them was the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5), As a matter of fact, He instructed them to go nowhere until they receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4). The Wonders of the Holy Spirit were explained in details in Acts 2:17-21, "And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams: - And on My servant and on My handmaidens, I will pour out in those days of the Spirit; and they shall prophesy: - And I will show wonders in Heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke; - The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come; - And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved"

See this again, Remember when Mary was curious about how she would conceive when she had not known any man in Luke 1:34-35, in verse 35a, "And the Angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overtake you:" But why does it have to always be the Holy Spirit??  Because whenever the Holy Spirit is engaged impossibilities are made cheaply possible! it is a MYSTERY. don't try to understand it.

Even Jesus before beginning His wondrous work on earth in human flesh  had to be filled with the Spirit of God after His Baptism, see for yourself in Matthew 3:16, where the Spirit of the Lord descended upon Him like a dove. One may ask, is it really necessary? yes, my Dear it is, if you want impossibilities to be made cheaply possible in your life then you must have the Holy Spirit. if Jesus had the Holy Spirit first before he started His wondrous work on earth, then we too need to demand for the Holy Spirit first so we can also be made signs and wonders.

You know what?, you have asked so much for your needs, it's time to start asking for the Holy Spirit. Some of us think God doesn't know our needs, you think He is not aware. the truth is we are the ones who do not know our needs. God created the world, He created man, He created you. How can you know more about yourself than the one who created you?? It's like saying a clay pot knows how best it could be used and what it should be used for and what it should contain than the one who mixed the clay and molded it. lol. it doesn't make sense right?. the same way it is when we are trying to make God look like He doesn't know what to do, it's like you are the suggesting to Him how it should be done. God is not baal (1 Kings 18). He has heard you well enough.

If you know your God, you will ask less of your needs and start asking for Him (Holy Spirit) and start praying for the Kingdom, because when you have Him, you have everything. Daniel 11:32b says, "But the people that do know there God shall be strong and do exploits". Don't get me wrong, it's not that asking for your need is wrong but see it this way, would you rather have a part of a whole than having the whole part. Having the whole part includes having even the needs that you never saw but then it is important maybe even more important than what you think is important. it's all about your decision and your mind frame. Jesus wasn't joking when He said give no thought about your need and seek the Kingdom first and His righteousness and one of the ways we can seek the Kingdom first, is by always asking for the Holy Spirit.

Always Remember Zechariah 4:6b, "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts".  There is no way you can achieve that by your might or power, you need the Holy Spirit.

Now before you ask God for the Holy spirit, you must have Christ in you, because He is the only Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6), if you have not received Christ, then you are not saved, if you are not saved, you are not safe, if you are not sure, then you are not saved. if you would like to give your life to Christ or maybe you fell off at some point and you would like to return back and reconnect with God, say this prayer and mean it,
"Lord Jesus, I come to You today, I accept that I am a sinner and I confess my sins and repent from them. I believe that You died on the cross of Calvary for my sins. Thank You for forgiving me. today I am saved, I am born again. thank You Jesus". if you said this prayer congratulations, you are now a child of God, so let go of the past evil ways, for the Bible says if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away, behold, all things are become new (2 Cor 5:17). Be Blessed.

  1. Thoughtful post. And great challenging question too: " Would you have rather have a part of the whole than having the whole part? " Spare me the parts,I go for the whole! [ smiles ]
